Detoxification and Cleansing
Detoxification and cleansing is crucial to optimal health, boosted energy, and an efficient immune system. Only a clean body is able to absorb vitamins and minerals optimal levels. A dirty body cannot carry out its proper functions, because it is cluttered and weighed down with waste and toxins. If you are feeling sluggish, under the weather, or generally fatigued, a detox diet may help you get back to feeling like normal. There can be many reasons why you feel like this, but many times it can come down to the digestive tract.
Detox is a term loosely used to refer to a number of things. Short for the word “detoxification”, detoxing the system can mean ridding the body of accumulated wastes or toxins from outside sources. Detoxing the system for general well-being usually refers to cleansing build up in the colon, that portion of the digestive tract that can retain solid wastes and become a breeding ground for bacteria. It can also be used in terms of kicking an alcohol or drug addiction. Whatever the cause of toxins building in your system, an effective detox diet may rid you of unwanted accumulation.
There are a variety of detox diets out there, including fasting, liquid dieting, and restricted food diets. Any of these will cause a shock to the system and cause built up matter to release. First of all, the fasting method as a detox diet means just that: no food. There are varying degrees of this kind of detox diet, but they generally mean not eating anything at all for a period of several days to allow the body time to clear itself naturally of the toxins.
Likewise, liquid dieting is a form of fasting in that no food passes your lips. With these, again, there are varying degrees. Some liquid detox diets propose consuming only water, while others say juice, and still others propose a lemon and cayenne pepper concoction to effectively flush out the toxins while not allowing any others to enter the body. In essence, these detox diet methods are trying to give the body a rest from the artificial and harmful items that are regularly consumed. The detox diets claim that the results will be a feeling of well being, of boosted energy, and a boosted immune system. Flushing out the toxins regularly is supposed to allow the body time to heal itself from the damage we do to it every day.
In addition to these benefits form a detox diet, there is the added plus that, just maybe, a detox diet may help you shed several pounds, as accumulated fluids an waste matter may account for several pounds of overall body weight. A detox diet is best performed under the supervision of a doctor, as depriving your body of nutrients, even for a few days, could have some ramifications. But if your doctor gives the green light, then perhaps a detox diet can get you out of the rut and feeling back to normal.
